Trolling Gino

yes, I'm trolling online mecca 1st dibs again. 

but really, can you blame me? so many treasures out there - including many by one of my favourite lighting designers, gino sarfatti. italian, of course - his works span four decades starting in the 1930's. 

 

something i happened upon late into my obsession with m. sarfatti is that in his youth, he trained for aeronautical engineering. i found this to be so self evident in his work once i had this knowledge. you can't help but looking at these sculptures of legs and arms in a whole new way. they are artistic in a mathematical sense, engineered for stability and balance - and puts the 'form follows function' idiom in action to the tee.  this is what it looks like when it all comes together:
