The First chair is part of the Future Primitives series that Muller Van Severen present in 2012 at Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk, Belgium. As the name suggests, it is their first chair, depicting the Muller Van Severen language in one simple seat.
For this object, Muller Van Severen taps into the aesthetics of their first exhibition, using L-shaped steel frames laquered white and polyethylene plastic for back and seat. This material might appear hard to sit on but it is not. The seating is positioned in a slight downward slope, making the chair deceivingly comfortable.

Care instructions: Polyethylene scratches easily and may already bear a few scratches when delivered. This is a deliberate choice by the design team that chose the materials to manufacture their piece in. This enhances the tactile interaction between object and user over time. Important to know: it’s a not scratch-resistant material and may have little imperfections when delivered. Never place hot pots or pans directly on the surface; always use a trivet or table mat for protection. The surface can be cleaned with mild soap and a soft cloth. Exposure to sunlight can cause discolouration. Frame can be wiped with a non-abrasive damp cloth.
