FIRST CHAIR by MULLER VAN SEVEREN
First chair is part of the Future Primitives series that Muller Van Severen present in 2012 at Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk, Belgium. As the name suggests, it is their first chair, depicting the Muller Van Severen language in one simple seat.
For this object, Muller Van Severen taps into the aesthetics of their first exhibition, using L-shaped steel frames laquered white and polyethylene plastic for back and seat. This material might appear hard to sit on but it is not. The seating is positioned in a slight downward slope, making the chair deceivingly comfortable.
Muller Van Severen's love of materials is the starting point for many of their designs. They continually search for new ways to showcase the natural beauty of the materials and strive to let the materials speak for themselves, without concealing anything. The objects reflect their deep appreciation of the materials they use to create them.
Available in eight colour combinations:
Red Brown/Light Blue
The designers work with a variety of carefully selected materials, each of which has its own unique qualities. The techniques they use to craft thier objects, the way materials age over time, and the tactile experience they provide are all deliberate choices. Please carefully read the materials and care instructions.

Polyethylene seat and back: Polyethylene scratches easily and may already bear a few scratches when delivered. This is a deliberate choice by the design team that chose the materials to manufacture their piece in. This enhances the tactile interaction between object and user over time. Important to know: it’s a not scratch-resistant material and may have little imperfections when delivered. Never place hot pots or pans directly on the surface; always use a trivet or table mat for protection. The surface can be cleaned with mild soap and a soft cloth. Exposure to sunlight can cause discolouration.
